Malerwinkel, Lübeck, Public park near River Trave in Lübeck, Germany
Malerwinkel is a public park situated at the edge of Lübeck's Old Town overlooking the Trave River and medieval skyline. The space provides views of church spires, historic warehouses, and traditional residential buildings lining the riverbank.
From 1579 to 1745, this location served as a storage district for salt from Lüneburg that merchants shipped to Scandinavia. Salt was essential for preserving fish and made the region a vital trading hub.
Artists and photographers gather here to capture views of the riverside churches and historic buildings reflected in the water. The scenes inspire people to record what they see.
The park is easily accessible, situated just a short walk from Holstentor along the main pathway. Restaurants and cafes surround the area, offering places to rest and refuel during your visit.
A distinctive feature is the long tradition of outdoor laundry drying, where residents have hung clothes between trees since the 14th century. This everyday practice remains part of the riverside landscape and often goes unnoticed by visitors.
