Michaelskapelle, Gothic chapel in Kiedrich, Germany.
Michaelskapelle is a two-story Gothic chapel located in the churchyard of the St. Valentinus und Dionysius Church. The structure features a slate-covered gable roof and pointed arch windows characteristic of Gothic design.
Construction began in 1434 under master builders Peter Eseler and his son Nikolaus, lasting around one decade. The lengthy building period reflects the importance the local community placed on this religious structure.
The ground floor was used to store human remains, while the upper level served as a place where visitors could view sacred relics.
The chapel is open daily from March through October between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM, with inquiries directed to the parish office. Visitors should plan their visit according to these seasonal hours, as the building closes during winter months.
The interior walls feature medieval floral designs representing healing herbs alongside a life-sized double crescent Madonna sculpture from 1520. These details show how late medieval artists combined practical knowledge with religious imagery.
