Marienbrücke
Marienbrücke is a road bridge in Pupplinger Au near Wolfratshausen that spans approximately 142 meters and carries cars, bikes, and pedestrians across the Isar River. The structure features a simple design that blends naturally with the surrounding landscape of fields and small woods.
The bridge underwent major repairs and strengthening in 1990, modernizing its structure for continued use. With this restoration came the installation of the Mary sculpture by artist Anton Ferstl, marking the bridge's renewed role in the community.
The bridge's name reflects local devotion to the Virgin Mary, a tradition common throughout this region of Bavaria. The sculpture of Mary with Child, created by artist Anton Ferstl and installed in 1990, expresses this faith connection that visitors experience when crossing the structure.
The bridge is part of an easy walking loop through Pupplinger Au that takes about one to two hours and suits families and people of all abilities. Check the weather before heading out and bring water, as winter snow and slippery conditions can affect the trails.
Benches are positioned along the trail, such as at the 770-meter mark, offering views across fields toward distant hills where visitors can pause and absorb the quiet beauty of the landscape. These rest spots become natural gathering places where walkers slow down and observe the changing seasons reflected in the countryside.
