Mittnachtbau, Office building and retail complex in Stuttgart-Mitte, Germany.
The Mittnachtbau is a ten-story office and retail complex in central Stuttgart featuring a facade of pale Cannstatt travertine and reinforced concrete construction. The building presents clean lines and large window sections, housing government offices, ministry departments, shops, and banking services across its floors.
Architects Ludwig Eisenlohr and Oscar Pfennig designed the building in 1928 during the Weimar Republic era. Following World War II, the American Forces Network radio station occupied space within it from 1953 to 1959.
The building represents the New Objectivity movement, emphasizing functional design principles through its structured form and minimal decorative elements.
The building sits in the city center with easy pedestrian access and multiple street-level entrances for visitors and staff. Ground-floor retail areas are openly accessible during business hours, while upper office spaces require appointment or authorization to enter.
From 1953 to 1959, the American Forces Network radio station operated from within this building, marking a period of post-war international presence.
