Marienkirche, Protestant church in Wolfenbüttel, Germany
The Marienkirche features a mixture of Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architectural elements, with an impressive tower topped by a Baroque helmet from 1751.
Construction of the church began in 1608 under Duke Heinrich Julius, marking it as the first major Protestant church building in the world.
The church contains a Karl Schuke organ from 1959 housed in a historic case from 1624, featuring 53 stops across four manuals for musical performances.
The church holds regular services and conducts monthly organ concerts, maintaining both religious and musical functions for the local community.
The Fürstengruft beneath the choir houses 29 members of the Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel ducal family, buried between the early 1600s and 1767.
