Naherholungsgebiet Hürtherberg

Naherholungsgebiet Hürtherberg is a 46.5-hectare woodland area with maintained paths threading through different parts of the landscape. The grounds include a pond, grilling areas, and sports facilities with marked trails that explain natural and historical features.

The area was originally a brown coal mining pit in the Rhenish coal district and was transformed into a protected natural space after World War II. This conversion demonstrates how industrial sites can be reclaimed and returned to the community as recreational spaces.

The Adolf-Dasbach pond and path honor a notable local figure, creating gathering places where neighbors meet and spend time together. The grounds serve as natural spaces where people find rest and connection within their community.

The area is easily accessible on foot and has parking available with clear signage at the entrances. Visitors should know that different sections are designated for various activities and the paths vary in difficulty.

The Adolf-Dasbach pond was created from an old mining pit and reaches about 4.8 meters deep, now providing habitat for water birds. Many visitors do not realize that the pond itself is a remnant of the area's industrial past.
