Mausoleum Ziegelsdorf, Heritage monument in Untersiemau, Bavaria, Germany.
The Mausoleum Ziegelsdorf is an architectural monument designed as a neo-Romanesque chapel approximately 17 meters tall. It features a central dome with an octagonal lantern rising from its roof in the forest landscape.
Carl von Seebach, a former Prussian administrator, owned Ziegelsdorf Castle during the 1800s. His descendant Werner von Seebach later commissioned the mausoleum as a burial structure.
Inside, a stone sarcophagus with a black marble lid rests beneath a life-sized marble Christ statue. The neo-Romanesque wall paintings create a solemn setting that reflects the building's purpose as a burial chamber.
The mausoleum is located within Schafholz forest and can be reached via several hiking paths through the woods. Walking is the primary way to visit this site, and paths wind through the surrounding trees.
The building underwent significant restoration work sponsored by the Free State of Bavaria in the 1990s. The natural stone exterior, roof structure, and interior were carefully secured and preserved during this effort.
