Nordsternpark

Nordsternpark is a large recreational space in Gelsenkirchen that stretches along the Rhine-Herne Canal and combines former mining structures with landscaped green areas. The grounds feature planted gardens, walking paths, and distinct zones designed for relaxation and activity.

The park was built on the grounds of a coal mine that operated until the early 1990s before the land was repurposed. This transformation into a public recreational area happened through a major federal garden exhibition in that decade.
