Parkanlagen Schloss Lechenich is a park surrounding historic castle ruins in the center of Erftstadt. The grounds span roughly eight hectares and combine old fortress remnants with open green spaces, winding pathways, and a small lake formed from a former water moat.
The castle was built in the early 1300s and served as a guest residence for archbishops of Cologne. Starting in the late 1700s, formal gardens began to take shape, and from 1894 onwards, Baron von Bleichröder transformed the land into an extensive park with pathways and water features.
The park's name reflects its connection to the historic castle that once hosted important visitors. Today, locals use the grounds as a gathering place and retreat, where the past and natural surroundings shape how people experience the area.
The park is accessible to visitors and located centrally in the Lechenich district, making it easy to reach. Pathways are adequately marked, and several routes allow you to explore the grounds, with the area easily walkable on foot.
The park is home to roughly 214 trees of various species, including very old oaks, maples, and beeches, some covered with moss and ivy. This ancient vegetation creates a naturally aged appearance and shows how the land has developed over centuries.
