Nordgaukaserne, Military barracks in Cham, Germany
Nordgaukaserne is a military complex at the northern edge of Cham, Bavaria, consisting of multiple buildings, training grounds, and administrative structures. The facility provides accommodation, training areas, and support services needed for military operations and personnel management.
Construction began in 1958 and the barracks opened in 1959 when the Panzergrenadier Battalion 113 established its operations here. The site has maintained its role as a key military installation in the region ever since.
The barracks maintain strong partnerships with American forces at Vilseck and the Austrian 4th Mechanized Infantry Brigade from Hörsching near Linz.
The barracks are located on the northern side of Cham and are accessible from the town, though access is restricted due to military security regulations. Visitors should note that this is an active military facility and entry typically requires authorization.
The installation functions as the command center for Panzer Brigade 12, coordinating eight battalions under its authority. This decentralized command structure spans four different federal states, underlining the site's strategic importance for regional military organization.
