Prinz Albrecht von Preußen Memorial, Bronze statue at Schloßstraße in Charlottenburg, Germany
The Prinz Albrecht von Preußen Memorial in Charlottenburg is a bronze figure on a granite base, approximately 4.5 meters tall, made from bronze, stone, and wrought iron. The statue portrays a person in general's dress uniform and stands on Schloßstraße directly across from the palace entrance.
The memorial was unveiled in 1901 and commemorates a figure who played a role in the 1870-1871 war. The inscriptions and reliefs reference this historical period and were created by a Berlin-based workshop.
The pedestal displays relief sculptures showing battle scenes, which make the military moments of that era visible to those who look closely. Visitors can read from these carved scenes what that period meant to people.
The memorial stands beside Schloßstraße at its intersection with Spandauer Damm, where it is easy to view from the street. The reliefs and inscriptions are easiest to examine when you walk around it from the street.
The base and crafted details were made by a Berlin firm called Granitwerke Kessel & Röhl, whose name appears as a mark on the monument. This local workshop thus left behind a piece of Berlin's industrial history.
