Pankow townhall, Administrative building and architectural monument in Pankow, Germany
Pankow townhall is an administrative building and cultural monument featuring red clinker brick walls, sandstone details, and decorative towers that rise 50 meters high. The structure is topped with a slate roof that gives it a traditional appearance.
The building was constructed starting in 1901 as the district's population increased and more administrative space became necessary. Its inauguration in 1903 marked the beginning of modern administrative infrastructure in Pankow.
The building displays sculptures by artist Sponar representing different human virtues, along with 'The Sower' by Viktor Burbott. These artworks shape the appearance of the structure and speak to the values the community wanted to embody.
The building is located at Breite Straße 24-26 and serves as the administrative center of Pankow district. Visitors should be aware that this is an active government building and access to certain areas may be restricted.
The original copper roof was removed during World War I for military purposes. The slate roof installed as a replacement has remained in place ever since.
