Ronsdorfer Talsperre, Heritage dam in Wuppertal, Germany.
Ronsdorfer Talsperre is a dam built of quarry stone in the Wupper valley near Wuppertal. The structure spans roughly 180 meters across the valley with a height of about 19 meters.
The dam was built between 1898 and 1899 and was the sixth of its kind constructed in Germany at that time. It was created under Mayor August Staas and designed by Professor Otto Intze from Aachen.
The dam received protected heritage status in 1995 after local residents campaigned successfully for its preservation and formed a support association.
The site is surrounded by various hiking paths that lead through the surrounding landscape. You can explore the area over different timeframes depending on your fitness level and available time.
The reservoir contains a dedicated structure built to accommodate love locks, preventing damage to the main dam while allowing visitors to participate in this local custom. The design keeps the historic structure intact while honoring the tradition.
