Schloss Calberwisch

Schloss Calberwisch is a brick building with an H-shaped floor plan on two stories, situated within a park of about 5 hectares that includes a boxwood garden. The grounds display the typical layout of a country estate with its manicured gardens and landscaped areas surrounding the main structure.

The current building was constructed in 1875 by architects Martin Gropius and Heino Schmieden, replacing an earlier wooden structure from 1839. The site later changed from being a noble residence to being transformed into a hotel-restaurant operation in 1995.

The château displays the typical elegance of a 19th-century estate, with its brick construction and spacious rooms open to visitors. Operating as a hotel and restaurant has kept the place active and allows guests to experience the historic interiors during meals or overnight stays.

The site is accessible today as a hotel and restaurant, allowing visitors to explore the interior spaces while dining or staying overnight. The surrounding park with its gardens can be freely viewed and offers space for walks around the grounds.

Between 1945 and 1990, the building served multiple public functions including a daycare center, retail store, and youth club. This unexpected phase in its history shows how the estate was woven into community life after the war.
