Schloss Eichhofen, château allemand
Schloss Eichhofen is an architectural monument with medieval roots and a large rectangular building from 1580 featuring three stories, steep gables, and side oriels that shape its structure. The estate also includes a small Romanesque chapel, a 19th-century garden pavilion, and brewery facilities that complement the grounds.
The first written record of an estate in Eichhofen dates to 1320, and the current castle building was constructed in 1580, originally connected to an iron hammer operation. After destruction during the Thirty Years' War and further modifications in the 18th century, the brewery developed from around 1692 onward as the primary economic activity and continues to define the site today.
The castle was long a seat of noble families and continues to shape the region's identity today. The brewery, active here since around 1692, brings together visitors and locals at regular festivals where local beer and craftsmanship take center stage.
The castle sits in a narrow valley and is accessible by the main road that passes through the grounds. A parking area accommodates visitors who wish to explore the estate, and footpaths lead along the historic buildings and brewery facilities.
The brewery uses water from a nearby spring naturally filtered by forest cover and sources hops from the renowned Hallertau region. This combination of traditional brewing practices and modern methods has enabled the brewery's continuity for more than 300 years.
