Salbker Wasserturm, Water tower in Salbke, Magdeburg, Germany.
Salbker Wasserturm is a red brick tower in Magdeburg with a cylindrical upper section decorated with sandstone details, reaching about 36 meters in height. The structure and its surrounding park area contain gallery spaces and provide views of the city and nearby lakes.
The tower was built between 1893 and 1894 by the Royal Railway Administration of Berlin to supply water to the planned Royal Railway Workshop in Salbke. It represents industrial infrastructure development during the railway expansion of the late 1800s.
The tower now serves as an artists' studio and exhibition venue where local creators display their work regularly. The surrounding pump stations have similarly been converted into cultural spaces that shape the creative life of the neighborhood.
The tower and Turmpark are open to visitors who can explore the grounds at their own pace. The site works well for a stroll, especially on sunny days when you can enjoy the benches and open spaces throughout the area.
Inside, the tower used a special double container system following the patented Intze principle, an engineering achievement of its era. This system allowed efficient water storage and pressure regulation for the railway facility.
