The site dates back to 1160 when a defensive structure was built, first documented in 1191 as the manor of Werner von Ertmarsdorf. Over the centuries, it evolved from a military fortification into a noble residence.
The gardens were designed by a renowned landscape architect and connect the castle to the surrounding landscape through water features and carefully planned sight lines. Visitors can still experience these connections while walking through the grounds today.
