Schloss Falkenberg is a stone fortress set on a wooded basalt hill, distinguished by timber-framed upper levels and a substantial square stair tower on its northern side. The interior spaces now serve a social organization, merging medieval architecture with contemporary community purposes.
The fortress was founded around 1250 by Konrad von Hebel at a strategic location controlling trade routes between Hersfeld, Fritzlar, and Kassel. Over subsequent centuries, the structure underwent various modifications while retaining original elements like the vaulted cellar and portions of medieval walls.
The castle grounds host an annual Christmas market on December 6th and 7th, including festive activities and a special celebration with Saint Nicholas.
