Schloss Grombach

Schloss Grombach is a medieval water castle in Bad Rappenau featuring a four-story residential tower with a hipped roof, a stair tower, and a two-story baroque administrative building. The complex displays the typical layout of a prosperous medieval lordship with clearly separated functional areas.

It began in the 13th century when the Lords of Grombach founded a water castle on this site. The estate later passed to the Helmstadt and Venningen families, who maintained and adapted the structure over the following centuries.

The name comes from the Lords of Grombach, who once ruled this territory and shaped its identity. Visitors can sense this medieval lordship through the layout and construction details that remain visible today.

The castle remains private property and can be viewed only from the outside. Visitors should respect marked areas and keep proper distance from residential spaces.

The southeastern watchtower connects to the main palace through an original defensive wall that has survived the centuries. This rare surviving connection gives visitors insight into how medieval fortifications were actually planned and built.
