Castle Gross Rietz, Baroque château in Groß Rietz, Germany.
Castle Gross Rietz is a baroque manor house in Rietz-Neuendorf with a symmetrical design, two stories, and ornate stonework framing the central entrance. The building features large windows characteristic of the classical elegance from the 17th century.
Construction took place between 1693 and 1700 under architect Cornelis Ryckwaert for Hans Georg von der Marwitz, court marshal to Frederick I. This building project marked the transformation of the rural property into a representative seat of power.
The castle forms part of a larger ensemble with park, agricultural buildings, church, and cemetery that reflects rural aristocratic architecture in Brandenburg. This grouping shows how such estates once functioned as centers of country life.
The castle is located at Nebenstraße 1 in Rietz-Neuendorf and remains private property, so only the exterior can be seen. The building stays accessible from outside and offers a good view of its baroque facade.
A later owner, Johann Christoph von Wöllner, served as a Prussian state minister and authored an influential religious edict in 1788. This document significantly shaped the religious policies of the Prussian state.
