Schloss, Renaissance château in Maroldsweisach, Germany
Schloss is a two-story mansion with rusticated corner pilasters and a prominent mansard roof. The elongated building features a simple belt cornice between the floors that horizontally divides its facade.
A water castle on this site was destroyed during the Peasants' War in 1525, leaving the land vacant for centuries. The Freiherren Horneck von Weinheim purchased the estate in 1768 and began construction of the current building.
The chapel inside displays ornate Rococo decorations with a stucco ceiling featuring shell motifs. These crafted details continue to define the appearance of the interior spaces.
The castle stands in the town center at Schlossplatz 5, easily reachable on foot. The building was converted into private apartments after renovations in the late 20th century, so visitors can only view the exterior.
The building shows an unusual proportioned form due to an unfinished second upper floor, abandoned during construction due to lack of funds. This economic decision left visible marks on the building's overall silhouette.
