Schloss Hagenburg, Heritage monument in Hagenburg, Germany.
Schloss Hagenburg is an L-shaped castle near Lake Steinhude with two main wings that blend half-timbered and neoclassical architecture. The building now functions as an auction house, with each side showing different stylistic features from separate construction periods.
The castle was first recorded in 1369 and served the Counts of Schaumburg as a defensive stronghold. Over the centuries it transformed into a residential palace and gained its present form through various renovations.
The castle served as the seat of the Counts of Schaumburg and still defines the character of the town today. The rooms inside tell the story of aristocratic life and show how the family lived within these walls.
The castle can only be visited on four designated days each year when preview events take place. Visitors should check in advance for these dates and expect crowds, especially since information is available online to the general public.
A dedicated Rhododendron Avenue leads directly to the main building and displays vibrant blooms during flowering season. This specially planted walkway was designed to create a grand arrival experience for visitors.
