Schloss Lauterbach, Bavaria

Schloss Lauterbach is a Gothic castle standing on a moraine hill east of Lauterbach village, with four corner towers and a rectangular central building. The structure is surrounded by defensive walls and set within woodland that has grown around the estate over time.

The castle began as a noble residence in the 13th century and was occupied by the Dachau family from 1250 to 1437. The von Eglofstein family then took ownership and shaped the estate through the following centuries.

The chapel inside the castle shows the religious practices of the noble families who lived there. The rooms reveal how ideas about living and power changed over many generations.

The castle sits roughly 10 kilometers west of Dachau and can be reached via the autobahn connecting Augsburg and Munich. A visitor parking area is available, making access to the site straightforward.

A hexagonal fountain documented in illustrations from 1729 remains a central feature of the castle grounds. This historical fountain shows the craftsmanship quality that has survived from that era.
