Schloss Molsberg is a baroque castle in the Westerwald region, sitting atop a basalt rock formation. The building is surrounded by an English-style landscape garden, giving the place a spacious and open appearance.
The fortress was originally built in 1030 by the Lords of Molsberg, but was completely rebuilt as a baroque castle in 1760. This transformation was part of a strategy to secure trade routes along the High Road.
The chapel displays baroque craftsmanship with fine details that visitors notice while walking through the rooms. The former garden pavilion now serves as a gallery, showing how the place adapts its historical spaces for contemporary use.
The main entrance is reached through a magnificent lime tree avenue dating from the 18th century. The grounds host regular festivals and musical events, especially during holiday periods.
The Counts of Walderdorff have owned the castle without interruption since 1657 as their ancestral home. This makes it one of the oldest continuously family-owned castles in the region.
