Sender Welden, Communication tower in Heretsried, Germany.
Sender Welden is a concrete broadcasting tower standing on Buchberg hill between the municipalities of Bonstetten and Heretsried. The structure reaches approximately 158 meters in height and was constructed as solid infrastructure for radio and mobile communications transmission.
The broadcasting tower was completed in 1983 and played an important role in spreading AFN Munich transmissions until 1998 across the region. Over the years its function shifted away from pure television broadcasting, which was discontinued in 2018.
The tower functions as a central component in Bavaria's media landscape, transmitting radio programs and mobile communications to local communities.
The tower sits on a hilltop with good visibility from various viewing angles in the surrounding area. A maintenance deck at about 75 meters height provides access to technical equipment, though this is typically reserved for staff.
The structure now serves mainly mobile network coverage, having stepped back from its original broadcasting role. Television transmission responsibilities were transferred to other locations such as the Hotel Tower in Augsburg.
