Schulkirche

Schulkirche is a Baroque church in Amberg with a rectangular structure and matching choir section, decorated with fine stucco work and ceiling paintings. The interior combines Bohemian-style domes with pointed vault architecture and features stucco decorations representing the four elements and seasons.

Wolfgang Dientzenhofer designed the church in 1697, and it was consecrated in 1699 before being expanded around 1758 with lateral chapels and an extended choir. This expansion changed the building's proportions and adapted it to the growing needs of the time.

The walls display paintings of apostles in various scenes, while the ceiling shows moments from the founding of the Order of the Visitation. These artworks shape the inner life of the space and tell stories about the faith of their era.

The interior is easy to explore, as the rectangular shape and clear layout provide good orientation. Visitors should allow time to study the stucco decorations and ceiling paintings at leisure, especially when daylight shines through the windows.

Inside is an organ built in 1760 by Johann Konrad Funtsch with 1001 pipes and 19 registers, restored in 1926 and 1993. This impressive instrument is a testament to craftsmanship and hidden technical complexity behind its historic facade.
