Burg Schadeck, Medieval castle ruin in Neckarsteinach, Germany.
The stone walls of Burg Schadeck rise from a steep rock face above the Neckar River, featuring two defensive towers and a shield wall.
Built in 1230, the castle changed ownership multiple times between noble families and church authorities until its decline in the late 15th century.
The local population named the castle Schwalbennest, meaning Swallow's Nest, due to its position on the high mountain slope.
Visitors can access the castle ruins at any time via a pathway from Neckarsteinach and climb the curtain wall for views of the valley.
The castle stands as one of four medieval fortifications in Neckarsteinach, constructed last due to space limitations on the existing mountain ridge.
