Sender Hühnerberg, Radio transmitter in Harburg, Germany
Sender Hühnerberg is a broadcasting facility with a 174-meter lattice tower positioned at 570 meters elevation that transmits signals across the Swabia region. The site operates digital audio broadcasts through dedicated multiplexes serving listeners in Upper Bavaria and Swabia.
The site was established in 1952 with a 49-meter steel lattice tower that was replaced in 1965 by a 212-meter guyed mast. The current structure was built in 2014, replacing the earlier installations.
The site broadcasts radio programs from Bavarian Radio, including Bayern 1 and BR-Klassik, reaching diverse audiences in the region. These programs shape local media consumption and listening habits.
The location sits at 570 meters elevation in open, rolling terrain that offers good reception conditions for visitors. Plan for hilly terrain and be prepared for varying weather conditions depending on the season.
The facility discontinued its analog television broadcasts for ARD in November 2008, marking the shift to digital DVB-T technology. This transition was part of a broader digital conversion wave across Germany.
