Landschaftspark Schöntal, Historical landscape park in Aschaffenburg, Germany
Landschaftspark Schöntal is a designed landscape garden in Aschaffenburg featuring artificial lakes, winding pathways, hills, and various structures spread across multiple hectares. The layout creates diverse spaces and viewpoints throughout the grounds.
Archbishop Friedrich Carl von Erthal commissioned the transformation of a hunting ground into this landscape garden starting in 1775. Various buildings were constructed through the late 1780s and shaped the park's current form.
The grounds display architectural elements such as a temple of friendship and a lookout tower designed by Emanuel d'Herigoyen. These structures shape the character of the space and reflect the taste of its founders.
The park is accessible year-round for walking and exploring the grounds at your own pace. The visitor center operates seasonally from April through October on weekends and holidays, offering information about the site.
Cattle graze freely in the Dörfchen area and naturally maintain the meadows through their grazing. These animals are an integral part of the rural character the park has preserved over time.
