Sea Life Königswinter, Public aquarium on Rhine riverside in Königswinter, Germany.
Sea Life Königswinter was a public aquarium on the Rhine riverbank featuring large water tanks filled with sharks, rays, and colorful tropical fish from around the world. The water environments represented different ocean habitats to recreate natural conditions.
The aquarium opened in 2001 as part of the international Sea Life chain and served visitors for almost two decades. It permanently closed on January 1, 2023, bringing an end to its long presence at this location.
The facility played an important role in environmental education and made visitors aware of marine biodiversity. School groups could learn here how important it is to protect oceans and their inhabitants.
The location sat directly on the river and was easily accessible by car or public transport. Visitors should have worn comfortable shoes since the tanks were spread across multiple levels.
The highlight was a transparent tunnel through which visitors walked while watching marine creatures swim directly above and around them. This striking passage gave the feeling of being underwater without getting wet.
