St. Nikolai, Mühlhausen/Thüringen

St. Nikolai features octagonal pillars, half-round columns, and neo-Gothic ribbed vaults that form the structural framework of its three-naved hall design.

The construction of St. Nikolai began around 1314 to replace an earlier building at a market site, with major renovations by Wilhelm Röttscher between 1897 and 1898.

The church stands as the largest suburban religious structure among twelve remaining medieval churches in Mühlhausen, representing regional architectural traditions.

The church contains a cast iron bell from 1959 and a bronze bell from 1505 in its octagonal bell chamber, which visitors can observe during tours.

The tower, completed after 1339, features two square levels, decorative pointed arch friezes, and pilasters, topped by a slate-covered roof with cross flower finials.
