St. Philipp and Jakob, Gothic church in Bad Grönenbach, Germany
St. Philipp and Jakob is a church in Bad Grönenbach with a three-nave hall design where the central nave rises higher and features a neo-Gothic star vault. The chancel windows are pointed, and the interior contains an organ with 35 registers across three manuals.
The church was consecrated in 1136 and built on an early structure with a crypt and tower base. In 1445, a Gothic transformation reshaped it into its present form.
The church is named after two apostles and reflects the religious past of the region. Visitors can still see the five bells in the tower today, with the oldest from 1523 bearing medieval inscriptions.
The church is located at Stiftsberg 9 and is regularly open to visitors. It is helpful to check opening times beforehand, as services may affect access to the building.
Between 1559 and 1621, the church shared its space with two different religious communities. Calvinists and Catholics worshipped side by side until the congregation returned to exclusively Catholic practice under Count Otto Fugger.
