The concrete structure reaches a height of 140 meters with a shaft diameter that narrows from 7.7 meters at the base to 2 meters at the top.
The tower was constructed between 1974 and 1976 to replace a 128-meter steel tower from 1961 that could not meet increasing transmission requirements.
The tower includes an observation platform between 75 and 83 meters that was intended for public visits but remained closed due to financial constraints.
Multiple FM radio stations broadcast from this location, including Gong FM, Klassik Radio, and Deutschlandfunk, serving the Regensburg metropolitan area.
In 2007, the tower's height decreased from 154 to 140 meters when a 20-meter antenna tip was removed following technological changes in broadcasting methods.
