St. Mariä Heimsuchung, Catholic church in Rhöndorf, Germany
St. Mariä Heimsuchung is a Catholic church in Rhöndorf with Romanesque Revival architecture and a tall tower completed in 1928. Inside, it houses a Klais organ from 1968 with 1160 pipes arranged across two manuals and pedals for musical performances.
Construction of the church began in 1903 under architect Franz Statz to serve the growing Catholic population of Rhöndorf. The parish was separated from Honnef at that time and needed its own place of worship.
The church features stained glass windows by Eduard Horst from 1956 that show religious scenes with rich colors. These windows shape how light fills the interior space throughout the day.
The church is located at Frankenweg 125 and easy to find, with the tower visible from a distance. Visitors can experience the organ during concerts, and the interior is usually open for quiet exploration.
A stone gravestone on the north side commemorates Heinrich von Drachenfels, the final burgrave of Drachenfels, who died in 1530. This memorial connects the church to the medieval history of the region.
