Bad Honnef, Spa municipality in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany
Bad Honnef is a medium-sized district town in the Rhein-Sieg district of North Rhine-Westphalia and sits on the right bank of the Rhine below the Siebengebirge hills. The built area ranges from flat riverside sections to gentle slopes with villas and residential neighborhoods.
The discovery of a mineral spring in 1897 transformed the wine town into a health resort and brought it the title Bad. This development attracted wealthy guests and fundamentally changed the economy of the town.
The thermal spring gives the town a spa-park character with well-kept paths and benches for rest. Many residents use these green spaces as meeting points for walks and relaxation on weekends.
You can reach the town easily by regional trains and buses from nearby areas. Pedestrians find well-developed paths along the Rhine riverbank and in the center without major inclines.
The first Federal Chancellor Konrad Adenauer lived here during his term when Bonn was still the capital. His house and garden on the Rhine promenade are now open to visitors.
