Wildpark Rolandseck, Wildlife park on Rhine hillside in Remagen, Germany.
Wildpark Rolandseck is a wildlife park featuring naturalistic enclosures spread across steep hillside terrain overlooking the Rhine River and surrounding landscape. Unpaved trails wind through the grounds with observation platforms positioned at various points for viewing the animals.
The park was founded in 1971 on grounds selected to preserve the original landscape features of the hillside. An observation tower dating from the 1860s remains standing within the park as part of its historic infrastructure.
Visitors can actively participate in animal care by collecting acorns and chestnuts throughout their visit. Children receive free admission when they bring sufficient quantities of these seasonal foods.
The sloped terrain requires sturdy footwear and takes time to traverse completely during a visit. Animal feed dispensers are positioned at multiple locations, allowing visitors to feed the animals while walking the grounds.
The Kasselbach stream creates natural ponds throughout the park, providing water sources for red deer, fallow deer, mouflon sheep, and wild boars. These water features allow the animals to behave naturally in ways rarely seen in standard enclosures.
