St. Ulrich, Parish church in Deidesheim, Germany
St. Ulrich is a parish church in Deidesheim featuring a three-nave basilica with round pillars and pointed arches throughout its interior. The central bell tower rises to approximately 206 feet (63 meters), making it a prominent feature of the town.
Construction started in 1444 on the site of an earlier Marian chapel from the early 14th century. The building took several years to complete, with disagreements about the roofing delaying the work until its finish in 1473.
The vaulted ceiling stones are carved with the coats of arms of families who supported the church. The outer walls display memorial inscriptions honoring nobility and clergy who were buried here across different eras.
The church sits in central Deidesheim at Kirchgasse 1, just steps away from the marketplace and town hall. This location makes it easy to explore on foot and visit other nearby sights in the old town at the same time.
The bell tower leans noticeably to one side, making it visually distinctive when viewed from outside. Even more striking is the medieval ossuary on the grounds, which is the only one of its kind remaining in the entire Palatinate region.
