Stasi-Bunker Lübschützer Teiche, Cold War military bunker museum in Machern, Germany.
The Stasi-Bunker Lübschützer Teiche is an underground facility of the former secret police located on a 5.2-hectare site near Machern. The structure extends beneath a recreational area and contains preserved offices, sleeping quarters, and technical equipment from that era.
The Stasi built this command post between 1968 and 1972 as a central hub for security operations. It was designed to remain operational during military conflicts and potential nuclear wars.
The bunker displays how the Stasi organized surveillance and what equipment they used for this purpose. The preserved furnishings and communication devices give a sense of how intensive the control was back then.
The site can only be visited on guided tours that depart on the last weekends of the month once enough visitors have gathered. Some pathways are unpaved and the interior is cool, so appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes are recommended.
A second bunker approximately 3 kilometers away was equipped with radio installations and served as a relay station in case the main post failed. This backup system shows how thoroughly the planning for prolonged conflict was thought through.
