Sternschanzenpark, Urban park in Sternschanze, Hamburg, Germany
Sternschanzenpark is a public green space in Hamburg's Altona district with areas for recreation and sports. The terrain is gently rolling with grass areas, walking paths, and open spaces for sitting and enjoying the surroundings.
The site originated in 1866 as part of Hamburg's defense system with a distinctive star-shaped layout. Later the military purpose was abandoned and the land was converted into a public park for residents.
The park serves as a gathering place for local communities where concerts, markets, and social events happen regularly. People of all ages come here to spend time outdoors and experience what the neighborhood offers.
The park has open access from multiple sides and is easy to reach and explore on foot. There are plenty of places to rest, shaded areas under trees, and different activity options for various interests.
A former water tower that was once the largest in Europe stands on one of the hills and has been converted into a hotel. This historic structure offers an unexpected contrast between industrial past and modern use.
