Sternwarte Feuerstein, Public observatory in Ebermannstadt, Germany.
Sternwarte Feuerstein stands on a hilltop at about 1,600 feet (500 meters) in Ebermannstadt and houses ten optical telescopes used for both nighttime sky observation and solar study. The site includes multiple buildings designed to support different observational activities.
The observatory was founded in 1999 by roughly 20 local astronomy enthusiasts who wanted to create a place for scientific observation. Since then, buildings and instruments have been added regularly as the facility expanded.
The facility offers guided sky tours and lectures that invite visitors of all ages to explore what lies beyond our planet. These programs create a space where curiosity about astronomy can develop naturally.
Weather conditions determine whether observation sessions can take place, so calling ahead on the day of your visit helps confirm if activities are scheduled. Clear nights offer the best viewing conditions for exploring the sky.
The facility operates two radio telescopes with diameters of 3 and 4 meters that allow researchers to study variable stars, comets, and meteors in ways standard optical telescopes cannot. These instruments open different windows into what happens beyond our planet.
