Städtische Galerie Kubus, Contemporary art gallery in Mitte, Germany
Städtische Galerie Kubus is a contemporary art museum housed in two floors of a modern extension connected to the Volkshochschule building. The bright exhibition spaces showcase diverse artistic works in a clean, contemporary setting.
The building opened in 1965 as a freestanding extension designed by architect Alfred Müller-Hoppe. The northeast facade features a metal sculpture titled 'Stahlrelief' by Erich Hauser, installed at the gallery's opening.
The gallery displays works by artists from the region and beyond, brought together through partnerships with cities like Poznań, Hiroshima, and Bristol. Exhibitions change several times a year, showcasing different artistic perspectives and approaches.
The gallery is located in central Mitte at Theodor-Lessing-Platz 2 and is easily accessible by public transport. Visiting on weekday mornings often means fewer crowds and a more relaxed viewing experience.
The open ART LAB program in August transforms the space into an experimental studio where young artists develop and present new works. This format offers a glimpse into the artistic creation process rather than displaying only finished pieces.
