Laveshaus

The Laveshaus at Friedrichswall 5 is a three-story residential building displaying classical architectural elements with symmetrical windows on each level. Its well-proportioned facade reveals the deliberate design of an experienced architect throughout.

Court architect Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves built this residence between 1822 and 1824 as his own home. He occupied the top floor while renting out the lower stories to tenants.

The building now serves as headquarters for the Lower Saxony Chamber of Architects, making it a living center for architectural discourse today. This professional use connects the space directly to the legacy of its original creator.

The building sits centrally in Hannover and is easily reached on foot from main areas. Its well-preserved structure clearly shows early 19th-century construction methods and can be viewed from the street.

The building survived World War II intact while surrounding structures were destroyed by air raids. This rare outcome makes it an exceptional survivor from that era in its neighborhood.
