Tutzinger Hütte, Mountain hut at Benediktenwand, Germany.
Tutzinger Hütte is a mountain hut on the northern slope of Benediktenwand in the Bavarian Pre-Alps, in Germany. It offers beds in rooms and dormitories for hikers aiming for the summit or exploring nearby peaks.
The building originally served a military purpose before the Alpine Club section of Tutzing took it over in 1907 and opened it as a mountain refuge in 1908. It was completely rebuilt in 2001, with modern infrastructure replacing the older structure.
The hut takes its name from the Alpine Club section based in Tutzing, which has run it since the early 20th century. Hikers stopping here will find traditional Bavarian mountain food served in a setting that feels rooted in local mountain life.
The walk up from Benediktbeuern takes around two to three hours on well-marked trails through the forest. Booking ahead is a good idea, as the hut fills up quickly on weekends and during the main hiking season.
After the 2001 rebuild, the hut was awarded the Environmental Quality Seal from the Alpine Club for installing a combined heat and power system that produces electricity and warmth at the same time. This kind of setup is still relatively rare in mountain huts at this elevation.
