Villa Lilly

Villa Lilly is a large sanatorium set across 39 hectares with a main building, Villa Claire, and several historical structures arranged around a central courtyard. The complex accommodates treatment spaces for individuals with drug dependencies and additional places for children of those receiving care.

German-American brewery owner Adolphus Busch had this estate built in 1891 as a summer residence near his birthplace in Kastel. The property later transformed into a treatment facility and has served this purpose ever since.

The building displays a blend of European classical elements and American colonial-style features that reflect the international background of its original owner. Visitors can observe this architectural connection while exploring the rooms and grounds.

The grounds are extensive and contain multiple buildings, so it helps to allow time for exploring and understanding the layout of different structures. Well-maintained pathways connect the areas, making navigation straightforward.

Residents participate in extensive vocational training programs in carpentry, electrical work, painting, metalwork, landscaping, and agriculture. This hands-on work forms part of their treatment approach and supports the upkeep of the grounds.
