Villa Post, Historical villa in Wehringhausen, Germany.
Villa Post is a two-story brick building in Hagen with sandstone details and a hip roof near the Ennepe River. Its clean cubic form is marked by crafted details and shows the solid construction of the late 19th century.
The building was built in 1892 for merchant Wilhelm Karl Johann Diederich Post and first served as a home for an established family. In 1932 it became a museum showing contemporary artworks, but was significantly altered during the 1930s by political circumstances.
The place takes its name from the Post family who originally built it and were active in the region's economy. Today visitors use the building for courses and events, giving it a living, open-minded function.
The building has housed the Volkshochschule Hagen since 1998, where regular courses and seminars for adults take place. Visitors should note that most activities are offered during certain seasons and registration is required.
Originally the main facade featured a Renaissance gable that gave the building a distinctive look. The location was directly next to the Post family's hammer works, showing how home and work life were closely intertwined.
