Wallfahrtskirche Höchstberg

The Wallfahrtskirche Höchstberg is a Catholic church in Gundelsheim with a single-nave hall design oriented toward the east. The building incorporates an earlier grace chapel into its choir section, connecting two distinct architectural components.

The church was built around 1300 and first mentioned in 1328 in a papal bull by Pope John XXII. Over the centuries, it underwent several reconstructions and renovations that shaped its present form.

The church continues to serve as a pilgrimage destination where visitors participate in religious ceremonies and local traditions throughout the year. People come here regularly to pray and take part in the spiritual practices that shape the religious life of the region.

Local tradition tells that a late 17th century church expansion was prompted by an apparition of Mary with baby Jesus in a walnut tree. This supernatural event inspired the construction work that enlarged the sanctuary.
