The church features a Gothic choir from 1350 and a Baroque nave adorned with frescoes painted by Joseph Anton Merz in 1777.
The original structure dates back to 1146, when Albert von Bogen granted the estate of Sazzowa to Windberg Abbey, leading to construction of a new church in 1178.
The church maintains regular Catholic services and draws pilgrims throughout the year, serving as the seat of Mariä Himmelfahrt Sossau Expositur within St. Jakob parish.
Located at Sossauer Platz 25, the church contains an organ from 1715, crafted by Hans Caspar König, and remains accessible for visitors and worshippers.
According to local records, excavations in 1736 revealed the church had no foundation, contributing to legends about angels transporting the structure to its current location.
