Weixdorf, Residential district in northern Dresden, Germany
Weixdorf is a residential area in northern Dresden that extends across a larger territory with farmland and nature reserves north of the city center. The area combines rural structures with the infrastructure of a modern city and forms a gentle transition between urban space and open landscape.
The first known settlements in this area date back to the Late Bronze Age more than 3000 years ago. Official records first mention the territory in 1350 and document its evolution from a purely agricultural area to a modern residential district.
The district preserves several old farmhouses in its center, showing the rural past and traditional architecture of the region. These buildings still shape the look of the historic village core and remind visitors of when farming defined life here.
The area lies about 10 kilometers from Dresden's center and is well served by public transportation. Its proximity to Dresden Airport makes it easily accessible for visitors arriving by air.
In 1957, a large part of the territory was transferred to the neighboring Klotzsche and later became part of Dresden Airport. This border shift permanently changed the geographic shape of the district and defines its form to this day.
