Wildpark Schwarze Berge, Wildlife park in Rosengarten, Germany
Wildpark Schwarze Berge is a wildlife park in Rosengarten, Germany, spreading over wooded hills and heath areas in the northern part of the Lüneburg Heath. The grounds host over one hundred species, including wolves, lynxes, bears, bison, and many native bird species in enclosures designed to resemble natural habitats.
The park began as a private project and grew into a conservation center for European animal species. Over time, enclosures were expanded and redesigned to meet modern standards of animal care.
Several times each day, keepers feed animals at different enclosures and explain how these creatures behave in the wild. Birds of prey fly freely overhead during demonstrations, showing hunting techniques that have evolved over centuries.
Between April and October, a small train runs through the grounds and offers a guided loop of about one hour. Visitors who prefer walking can follow paved paths and forest trails that connect all areas of the park.
An observation tower within the park rises 45 meters (148 feet) and opens views toward Hamburg and the Elbe on clear days. Climbing the stairs rewards visitors with a panorama that takes in both the city skyline and the forested hills nearby.
