Water tower Ratzeburg Hindenburghöhe

The Water tower Ratzeburg Hindenburghöhe is an octagonal structure reaching 38 meters high with a brick-clad concrete construction. It contains four levels that lead upward to an observation platform at the top.

This tower was built in 1904 and underwent major reconstruction in 1935 when a new tank was placed on top of the existing structure. The changes increased its capacity before the facility ceased operations in 1976.

This structure represents early 20th-century municipal engineering and shows how architects of that era combined practical purpose with decorative design choices. Visitors can see the craftsmanship and building methods that were common in German towns at that time.

The tower sits in a wooded area east of Ratzeburg's old town and is accessible by foot from the town center. The building remains closed to visitors due to storm damage and restoration needs that have not yet been addressed.

In 1935, engineers transformed this structure by placing a new tank on top and encasing it in concrete as a single operation. This creative solution allowed them to significantly increase storage capacity while preserving the original foundation beneath.
