Built in 1904 and reconstructed in 1935, the tower's water tank capacity increased from 30 to 260 cubic meters before its decommissioning in 1976.
The structure represents early 20th-century municipal engineering, combining functionality with architectural elements of Neo-Romanesque design in its original form.
Located east of Ratzeburg's old town in a wooded area, the tower stands unused since 1976 and requires substantial restoration due to storm damage.
The water tower underwent a complete transformation in 1935 when engineers placed a new tank on top of the existing structure and encased it in concrete.
